Have you ever had a short conversationâjust a few wordsâthat stayed with you longer than you expected and quietly shaped your next step? The Pittsburgh Human Library was created from moments like that. Emerging from BRIDGES, an intergenerational mentoring program rooted in the Korean and Korean American community in Greater Pittsburgh, this project grows out of a simple but powerful cycle of care.
In BRIDGESđ, college and graduate students generously mentor high school studentsâbecoming someone younger students can lean on. Yet many of these mentors quietly carry questions of their own: âI wish I had someone I could ask.â, âI feel like an adult, but I still donât have all the answers.â That is where the Pittsburgh Human Library begins.
Instead of borrowing books, we borrow human experiences.đ€ Professionals in our community are invited to participate as Human Books, not to teach or present polished success stories, but to share the journeys that shaped them: the transitions, the hesitations, and the moments without clear answers.
Participation is intentionally simple and flexible. One conversation is enough. If it continues naturally, thatâs welcome too. Over time, we also hope this becomes a gentle space where Human Booksâprofessionals themselvesâcan connect with one another through shared questions and lived experiences, creating a quiet but meaningful cycle of mutual support.
If this resonates with youâor if someone comes to mind whose story could be meaningful to the next generationâplease feel free to pass this along. More details are included in the attached invitation letter (available in both English and Korean).

I still believe there are many warm-hearted people in this world, and this project exists because of them. Thank you for being someone whose story might become a turning point for someone else. đ
